How to Use Picksy for Wedding Prop Bets

A step-by-step guide to setting up prop bets for your wedding.

March 2025

Wedding prop bets are one of the easiest ways to keep guests entertained from the moment they arrive. Instead of staring at their phones during cocktail hour, they're debating whether the best man will cry and how long the vows will run. Five steps to set it up.

Step 1: Create your event

Sign up for a free Picksy account and create a new event. Here you'll fill out some information like:

  • The name of the event
  • The date of the event
  • A custom URL path for the event
  • An optional introduction message for players
  • An optional password for the event

If you're playing for keeps, the introduction message is a great place to include a Venmo handle and instructions to send money for the pot.

Step 2: Build your prop board

Choose from Picksy's library of pre-written wedding props or write your own from scratch. Good wedding props are specific, fun, and controversial enough to spark debate. A few crowd favorites:

  • How long will the first dance song run?
  • How many speeches will there be?
  • Will anyone wipe out on the dance floor?
  • Will the bride or groom change outfits?

Aim for at least 10 props to separate the winners from the losers. Any less than that and you risk having a large number of players tie for first place.

You can also set a free-response tiebreaker question to cover the case where there is a tie. Pick something like "How many total beers did we order for the wedding?" where you can determine the winner based on who guesses the closest number.

Step 3: Choose your plan and share

If your wedding is on the smaller side, you can go with the Gathering plan ($15) which allows entries for up to 40 guests. For larger receptions, the Function plan ($60) gives you unlimited entries. Once you've picked a plan and published your event, share your custom URL or download a QR code to print and place on table cards, your wedding website, or anywhere else you'd like.

When should guests submit their picks?

Your event won't be open to submissions until the day that you set (which is likely your wedding day). Before the reception, or right after during photos, are both good times for guests to submit their picks.

Step 4: Grade outcomes as they happen

As the night unfolds, you or a trusted helper grades each prop through the Picksy grading view. This is gated by a secret passphrase that's generated for you when you publish the event. When the answer to one of your props is determined, you can open this page and mark it. This will immediately update the leaderboard and reflect on the picks page for all participants.

Step 5: Crown the winner

Once all props are graded, the leaderboard shows the final standings. Announce the winner at the end of the reception — a small prize (a bottle of wine, a gift card, or the pot contributions) makes it extra memorable, but bragging rights are often reward enough.

Tips for the best results

  • Keep props answerable. Every prop should have a clear, verifiable outcome by the end of the night.
  • Mix it up. Include a few easier props alongside some trickier ones so the leaderboard stays competitive.
  • Personalize it. Dedicate one or two props to questions about a specific person or couple.
  • Designate a grader. The couple shouldn't have to worry about scoring mid-reception. Assign a bridesmaid or groomsman to handle it.

If you're planning a bachelor or bachelorette party too, that's another great time to try Picksy with a tighter-knit group.
